Encounter

“Hold Him!” Kristof yelled, aiming his bow. “What do you think I’m doing?” Varios snapped back landing a punch right into the beast’s eye. The beast roared and turned its jagged tusks onto Varios, who took the hit with his shield. Kriftof unleashed an arrow barrage into the side of the beast, but most of them bounced off the scales. “God damn it. I can’t hit this thing.” Kristof lowered his bow. “I need to hit it in the eye or something.” Varios wanted to punch Kristof more than the beast now, but instead he just said, “Take aim!” Then…

The Wind

She stayed awhile longer in bed, feeling the soft tenderness of the clean sheets. Drifting in and out of consciousness was pleasant and everything seemed bright, warm, and comforting. Eventually the desire to start the day outgrew the white plushness and she got up. She set up her favourite tune, somewhat up-beat, somewhat smooth and slipped into the shower. The water was warm and the steam itself seemed to emanate a pleasant vanilla aroma.  Breakfast was already waiting in her room and she gladly started to eat, even though she thought it was unnecessary. “I’d like to cook something” she…

Footprints

I pointed my rifle to the ground and used my left hand to shield my face as I walked through the branches. I felt the cold tinge of snow on the back of my neck and tried to shake it out. After giving up, I grabbed the rifle with both of my hands and proceeded further into the woods in knee deep snow. I knew the likelihood of sneaking up on a deer was basically zero. It was a bright, calm day and the forest was quiet, unlike my steps. On the other hand, deer were reluctant to move in…

Discovery

Emily swiped her card. The little red light turned to green and she walked into the warm embrace of the hallway. She shook her umbrella and let it drip as she made her way into the break room.  The building was quiet and the rare light coming in from the break room was inviting. As usual, Emily made her way in, hung her coat, placed down her umbrella, and powered up the expresso machine. The noise from the water pump broke the silence and then the whirling blades overwhelmed the pump. The smell of fresh ground coffee filled the room…

Sterile

The waiting room was sterile white and had an artificial lavender scent that was trying to mask the pungent smell of adhesives. The young, pretty receptionist was sitting at her desk, doing her best to ignore the waiting patient. Emily was sitting right in front of her and couldn’t help but notice that the receptionist was perfect, everything exactly where it should be. Her straightened raven hair reached just above her cheekbones, her red lips radiated against her porcelain skin, a silver heart necklace poured out of her smooth neckline, all the while her long fingers danced majestically over the…

Priestess

She stepped into the temple’s inner circle, where a seven sided star laid in the marble floor. In her hands, she carried a great bowl filled with five large gems. Tonight was the night between the Sun’s day and the Moon’s day, and this was an offering to the goddess honouring her role and sacrifice in creating this world. First, the priestess placed a red gem into a bowl at one of the short sides of the seven sided star. As soon as she placed the gem, the moonlight, coming in through the glass roof, hit it and fantastical images…

The Steppe

The wind was in his face, flaying is long dark hair. He saw a speck on the horizon, shining brightly against the raising hot air, and gave a glottal grunt. The horse picked up the pace. As he approached the strange hut, he slowed down to a light trot. Its broken contours and unnatural glow in the Sun made it look like the ancient ruins. He’d seen them himself when he was a child. When he first found it, he followed a falling star so bright it lit the night sky.  He was so close to it when it first…

Love comes in different shapes

The clock on the wall hits five o’clock. Finally, I get to go home. With a few courtesy goodbyes she quickly leaves the office, goes down in the elevator, and out into the fresh air of the street. The sky is dark and the wind cold. She shivers and hurries to her car. The parking lot is full and she can’t quite remember in which row she parked. Annoyed at the weather and herself, she goes up and down the parking lot repeatedly pressing the button on her car keys waiting for the car to respond. The red break lights flash…

My Short Stories

Here, I will post my short stories. I really enjoy writing them and the shorter format allows me to be more diverse with the genres. So, here you will see not only sci-fi stories, but also fantasy, supernatural, and even just regular present day fiction.
