Review – Transmission
Transmission is a young adult novel with a 13 year old boy as a protagonist and I actually enjoyed this book. I’m not big on young adult novels as the problems teenagers face seemed irrelevant to me even when I was a teenager, but this book was well written and avoided many of the tropes of young adult sci-fi. Perhaps it is because the protagonist finds out at the very beginning of the book that he is dying and, so normal teenage problems are not really part of his life anymore.
There were a few moments that made me cringe a little, but I think that that had to do more with how the scientists acted in certain situations and being familiar with that world, it made it seem extra unrealistic.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I will note that I actually ended up listening to it as an audiobook, which made it easier to get through. So, if you like young adult sci-fi, definitely read it! If however, you’re not into young adult then meh.
